Summary
This page explains how anyone can have their data deleted from SemPost. It is also our data deletion instructions page for Facebook, Instagram, Threads and the other social networks you can connect to SemPost.
- Delete your account: Settings › Profile .
- Delete a workspace: Settings › Workspace, if you are its owner; if the workspace pays through Shopify, or SemPost's Shopify app is installed in it, uninstall the SemPost app in Shopify .
- Disconnect a social account: Settings › Social accounts. Data received from LinkedIn is deleted at once, and the account's other data in SemPost within 7 days .
- Ask us: email [email protected].
Delete your SemPost account
- Open Settings › Profile at app.sempost.ai and choose to delete your account . Inside Shopify admin this option is not shown.
- Confirm with your password and, if you use two-factor authentication, a code from your authenticator app. If your account was created through Shopify and has no password, first set a password with "Forgot your password?" on the sign-in page.
- If you are an owner of a workspace, SemPost first asks you to hand over the ownership to another member or to delete the workspace.
When you confirm, we delete your account together with your sessions, two-factor settings, sign-in records, acceptances of the Terms and workspace memberships . The confirmations you gave before a purchase (to start at once, with its withdrawal terms, and in Turkey the pre-contract information) and the withdrawals you made in the app stay until three years after the purchase or the withdrawal, no longer linked to you and without your name, email address, IP address and browser details: consumer law requires us to be able to prove them. In the audit log, your IP address and browser details are blanked . Content that you created in a workspace (posts, files, rules) belongs to that workspace and stays there until the workspace deletes it. Posts and other records name the member who wrote or approved them only by an internal identifier, not by name or email address. After your account is deleted, that identifier no longer leads to anyone, so your name is no longer shown with them . Copies in our database backups can remain until the backups expire, about 4 weeks later.
Before you delete your account, you can download your own data in Settings › Profile: your profile, memberships, sessions, sign-in attempts, consent records, the withdrawals you made in the app and the audit entries of your own actions .
Delete a workspace
Only the owner of a workspace can delete it. Owners and admins can export the workspace's data first, in Settings › Workspace: a ZIP file with the workspace's records and download links for its media files .
Workspaces paid on the web, or not paid
- Open Settings › Workspace and choose to delete the workspace.
- Type the workspace's name, your password and, if you use two-factor authentication, a code from your authenticator app.
- If the workspace has an open subscription, it is cancelled first, at once, without waiting for the end of the billing period. Before you confirm, the deletion screen tells you how many days of the paid period are left . The Refund and Cancellation Policy explains what happens to the amount already paid.
The workspace closes immediately: publishing, automations and content generation stop. You can undo the deletion within 7 days. During these days the social accounts stay connected to our social gateway, so you do not need to connect them again if you undo the deletion. On day 7 we delete the workspace permanently, and its social accounts are disconnected.
Workspaces installed from Shopify
If the workspace pays for SemPost through Shopify, or SemPost's Shopify app is installed in it, you delete it by uninstalling the SemPost app in your Shopify admin.
- When you uninstall, we delete the store's access tokens and its connection. If the workspace pays through Shopify, its plan closes: publishing, automations and generation stop, and the social accounts are disconnected 48 hours later.
- About 48 hours after the uninstall, Shopify sends us a deletion request for the store. Our hourly job checks with Shopify that the app is still uninstalled and then deletes the workspace, if the installation created it and no purchase was ever started for it on our website through Link (Stripe). Otherwise we delete only the store's connection and installation records; the rest of the workspace stays until its owner deletes it in Settings › Workspace, or asks us. Shopify allows up to 30 days for this; we act as soon as Shopify confirms the uninstall.
- If you install the app again before the deletion, the same workspace is connected again.
What permanent deletion removes
When a workspace is deleted permanently, we delete :
- the workspace's profile at our social gateway Zernio, which removes the connected social accounts there;
- every file stored for the workspace: generated media, thumbnails, temporary files, brand files and files uploaded to the library;
- the workspace and everything linked to it, such as store connections and their credentials, product data, posts, automation rules and their history, analytics, brand settings, credits, memberships and invitations;
- the accounts of members who do not belong to any other workspace, with their sessions, two-factor settings and sign-in records. If this was your only workspace, this includes your own account.
In the audit log, the IP address and browser details of the deleted people are blanked. What we keep is listed under "What we keep and why" below.
Disconnect a social account
- Open Settings › Social accounts.
- Choose the account and disconnect it.
What happens:
- The account is removed at our social gateway Zernio, together with its comment-to-DM automations.
- SemPost deletes the data received from LinkedIn at once.
- For the other networks, SemPost keeps the account's name, profile picture and analytics for 7 days and then deletes them .
- Your post history in SemPost stays in the workspace until you delete the workspace. Posts that were already published stay on the social network; delete them there if you no longer want them.
SemPost also disconnects accounts automatically: 48 hours after a trial ends without a paid plan, or 48 hours after a paid plan closes. In that case the accounts' name, picture and analytics history stay as long as the workspace exists, so they are there again when you reconnect; analytics from YouTube and Google Business Profile are still never older than 30 days, and data from LinkedIn is deleted at once .
YouTube: data that we received through YouTube API Services is deleted within 7 days after you disconnect the account or ask us to delete it . If you instead remove SemPost's access in your Google Account (https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions), the analytics we stored are deleted within 30 days, because they can no longer be refreshed ; the channel's name and picture stay until you also disconnect the channel in SemPost, or ask us.
Google Business Profile: analytics from your Business Profile are never older than 30 days ; the profile's name and picture are kept while it is connected. After you disconnect the profile, we delete its data within 7 days .
Remove access on the social network
Disconnecting in SemPost removes the account at our gateway. To also withdraw the permission you gave on the network, remove the app there. The network's list of connected apps shows the app that connects your account, which may be the app of our partner Zernio rather than one named SemPost; on Instagram it is named "Social Media Connector". Zernio's privacy policy explains how Zernio handles this access.
| Network | Where to remove the app |
|---|---|
| Facebook, Instagram and Threads | In the account's settings, in the list of connected apps and websites or business integrations |
| YouTube and Google Business Profile | In your Google Account, on the page for third-party access: https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions |
| TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Bluesky | In the account's settings, in the list of apps that have access to the account |
Removing the app on the network does not delete the data in SemPost; the account then shows that it needs to be reconnected. To delete the data in SemPost as well, also disconnect the account in SemPost, or ask us.
Delete single items
You can also delete data without closing your account or workspace:
- Posts: posts that have not been sent can be deleted from the Posts page. Posts that were already sent stay in the post history until the workspace is deleted.
- Media: deleted files go to the trash for 30 days; "delete now" removes a file at once, together with its thumbnail. Generated files that you did not save to the library are deleted automatically 30 days after they were last used. Data exports are deleted 24 hours after they are ready .
- Stores: when you disconnect a store, its credentials are deleted.
- Comment-to-DM: stopping an automation on a post deletes it at our gateway; this cannot be undone.
- Two-factor authentication: turning it off deletes its secret and your recovery codes.
- Sessions: you can end your sessions in your account settings. Records of ended or expired sessions (IP address and browser) are deleted after 30 days .
- Team members: removing a member from a workspace removes only the membership. The person's SemPost account stays, and they can delete it themselves.
- Invitations: accepted, withdrawn or expired invitations are deleted after 30 days .
Automatic deletion
If a trial or a paid plan ends and no payment follows, the workspace and its data stay, but the social accounts are disconnected after 48 hours. If a workspace has no open plan, for whatever reason (for example, the trial ended, the subscription was cancelled or a payment failed), and no member signs in or does anything in it for 150 days, we email its owners; if that is still the case on day 180, we delete the workspace . The deletion removes what is listed under "What permanent deletion removes" above.
Payment data held by Link
On the web, Link (Stripe) sells SemPost as merchant of record. Link, not SemPost, holds your card details, billing address, tax ID and purchase records. To have them deleted, ask Link: Stripe's privacy policy for Link explains how, and help is on Link's "Sold through Link" support pages.
When Link deletes your data, Stripe also cancels your SemPost subscription and informs us by email. The workspace then has no plan, but its data stays until you delete it or the automatic deletion above applies.
If you pay through Shopify, Shopify keeps your billing records under its own terms.
If you are not a SemPost user
- You received a message after commenting on a post (comment-to-DM): SemPost stores no data about you. The record of who received a message is kept by our gateway Zernio for the business that runs the account; Zernio's privacy policy explains how it handles such records. You can ask that business, or write to us and we will pass your request on and help.
- You are shown or named in a business's content (for example in a photo or a post): the business that uses SemPost decides about its content. Please contact that business. If you write to us, we forward your request to it.
- You were invited to a workspace and did not accept: the invitation is deleted 30 days after it expires or is withdrawn . You can ask us to delete it sooner.
- Your email address was typed on our sign-in page: records of sign-in attempts, including for addresses that have no account, are deleted after 90 days .
- You are a customer of a Shopify store that uses SemPost: SemPost does not receive data about store customers; it has no access to customers or orders. Requests that Shopify forwards to us are answered.
Ask us by email
Email [email protected], if possible from the email address of your SemPost account. Tell us:
- what you want deleted: your account, a workspace (you must be its owner), the data of a social account, or specific items;
- the workspace or account concerned.
To make sure that the request comes from you, we may ask you to confirm it from your account's email address. We never ask for your password. Our staff delete an account, or start the deletion of a workspace, with the same deletion as in the app, and the reason is recorded . Other data, such as a social account's, we delete for you.
If you are in Turkey, you can also use the channels described in our KVKK Application Form.
How long it takes
- Account: deleted when you confirm .
- Workspace: closed at once, deleted permanently on day 7 . Shopify installations: after Shopify's deletion request, which arrives about 48 hours after the uninstall.
- Social account data: after you disconnect the account, data received from LinkedIn at once, other data within 7 days .
- Requests by email: we confirm receipt within 3 business days and complete the request without undue delay, at the latest within 30 days. Data received from LinkedIn is deleted without delay once we have confirmed your request, and data received through YouTube API Services within 7 days after your request . If the law allows more time for a complex request and we need it, we tell you why within those 30 days. Requests are free of charge.
- Backups: deleted data can remain in our database backups until they expire, about 4 weeks later; in the meantime it is not used for anything else.
What we keep and why
Some records stay after a deletion. They refer to a deleted workspace only by an internal number and do not contain your content.
| What we keep | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Audit log entries (who did what and when) | Security and accountability; defending legal claims | 2 years; IP address and browser details are blanked after 1 year , and at once for deleted people |
| Credit ledger, publishing events and billing alerts | Billing, refunds and disputes; proof of what was published and when | For as long as the accounting and tax laws that apply to us require records to be kept |
| Confirmations given before a purchase, withdrawals made in the app and records of cancellations | Consumer law: proof of the information and consent given before a purchase, of a withdrawal and of a cancellation | Three years after the purchase, the withdrawal or the cancellation; without the person's name, email address, IP address and browser details once their account is deleted |
| Record of Shopify's privacy requests (the store's domain) | Proof that we answered Shopify's requests | Kept after the erasure, as long as we may need this proof |
| A digest of a Shopify store's ID | To give the free trial only once per store | Kept after the erasure, as long as we offer a free trial through Shopify |
| Database backups | Recovery after a failure | About 4 weeks |
| Records of Link (Stripe) and Shopify | Their own legal obligations | Under their own terms |
| Content published on social networks | It is on the network, not in SemPost | Until you delete it on the network |
Your acceptance of our terms is not kept after your account is deleted: it is deleted with the account.
