How-to guide
Export or delete your data
Download your workspace's data or your own as a ZIP file, delete a workspace with 7 days to change your mind, or delete your account.
A workspace's data is in Settings › Workspace, where admins and the owner can export it and the owner can delete the workspace. Your own account is in Settings › Profile, where anyone can export their data or delete their account.
Export the data
Admin Export the workspace's data holds the workspace with its plan and settings, the members and invitations, the stores (without keys) and social accounts, the posts and what happened to each, the automation rules and their runs, followers and post analytics, every credit movement, the audit log, the brand settings, and a list of the media files with a download link for each.
Export my data, on Settings › Profile, holds your profile, your workspaces and roles, your sessions and sign-in attempts, what you agreed to, and what you did in every workspace. It works at app.sempost.ai and inside the Shopify admin alike.
Both work the same way:
- Press Prepare an export. It takes a few minutes, and an email tells you when it's ready. The email only opens SemPost: the file downloads from the card, after you sign in.
- Press Download within 24 hours: then the file is deleted and the card says Expired. The links to media files in the export also work for 24 hours from when it was made.
- You get one export a day: the card says when you can ask for the next one. One that Could not be prepared doesn't count.
Files are JSON in a ZIP, with a README that explains each one. A field that names someone who has since deleted their account is empty.
Delete a workspace
Owner A deleted workspace waits 7 days before it goes, and you can change your mind meanwhile.
Read what happens
In Settings › Workspace, Delete the workspace lists it: a running subscription ends at once, without a refund; nothing is published or generated from then on, and automation stops; for 7 days you can take the deletion back; then everything is deleted for good. Press Delete workspace.
Confirm
Type the workspace's name, your password and, if you use two-factor authentication, a code. If the subscription is paid for a while longer, the window says until when and how many days you give up. Press Delete in 7 days.
The workspace waits
Every member now sees … is being deleted with the date, instead of the workspace; owners and admins get an email. Posts due in these days aren't published. Owners and admins can still export the data from that screen.
To take it back, the owner presses Take the deletion back on that screen before the date. The workspace works again, and owners and admins get an email. Posts that were due meanwhile stay unpublished: plan them again. A subscription that ended with the deletion doesn't come back: buy a plan in Settings › Billing to go on. Without a plan, the social accounts are disconnected, as when a plan closes.
A workspace that pays through Shopify, or that has SemPost's Shopify app, isn't deleted here: remove the app in the Shopify admin instead, as Remove the app from Shopify explains.
What goes and what stays
When the 7 days are over, SemPost deletes the workspace with its posts, media files, automation rules, analytics, brand, credits, store and social account connections and team. The SemPost accounts of members who belong to no other workspace go too: yours as well, if this is your only workspace. Export what you want to keep before the date.
Posts already published stay on the networks: delete them there if you want them gone. SemPost keeps a few records, such as the audit log, the credit movements and the publishing events, which name the deleted workspace only by an internal number; in the audit log, the IP addresses of the deleted people are cleared. Link (Stripe) and Shopify keep their own records of your payments.
The free trial comes once per account: if yours already had one, a workspace you create later starts without it, even after you delete the workspace that had it.
Delete your account
In Settings › Profile, at app.sempost.ai, press Delete my account, enter your password and, if you use two-factor authentication, a code, and press Delete my account again. It happens at once and can't be undone: you're signed out and get an email.
- If you own a workspace that isn't being deleted, the card names it: make another member its owner in Settings › Team, or delete the workspace first.
- Your profile, your sessions, your two-factor settings, your memberships and your sign-in attempts are deleted. In audit logs, your entries stay without your IP address.
- What you made in a workspace, such as posts and files, stays there; your posts show Deleted member as their author.
If something goes wrong
- Type the workspace's name exactly as it is. Capitals and extra spaces don't matter; the letters do.
- The current password is incorrect. Enter the password you sign in with.
- Deleting asks for your password, and you have none yet. Your account came from the Shopify admin: press Set a password, follow the link in the email, then come back.
- Stripe could not be reached. Try again in a moment. Nothing was changed: try again.
- This workspace is tied to SemPost's Shopify app, so it can't be deleted here. The rest of the message says what to do: a workspace that pays through Shopify is deleted 48 hours after SemPost is removed in the Shopify admin (Settings › Apps); one that pays on the web can be deleted here once the app is removed.
- A data export was asked for in the last 24 hours. You can ask again later. The card says when.
- This export has expired. Ask for a new one. Press Prepare an export again once the card allows it.
