How-to guide

Remove a social account

Stop SemPost publishing to an account and free its place in your plan, and know what happens to its planned posts, its rules and its analytics.

Remove an account when you no longer post to it from SemPost: you closed a shop's second Instagram account, handed a Facebook Page over to someone else, or need its place in your plan for another account. Removing takes SemPost's permission away. On the network nothing changes: the account and everything it published stay as they are.

Before you remove it

Posts planned for the account fail when their time comes, and posts waiting for approval for it can't be approved any more. Look at them first:

  1. Open Calendar, choose the account in All accounts and Planned in the state list. Do the same with Waiting for approval.
  2. For each post, decide: delete it with Delete in its side panel, or write it again for another account.
  3. If an automation rule posts to the account, note it: after the removal the rule leaves the account out.

Remove the account

Find the account

Go to Settings › Social accounts and find the account under Connected accounts.

Press Remove

Press Remove next to it. A window, Remove …?, says what removing does.

Confirm

Press Remove account. SemPost says "… removed", the account leaves the list and its place in your plan is free at once.

What changes

  • On the network: nothing. Your account and its posts stay. You can also take the app's permission away in the network's own settings.
  • Publishing: SemPost stops publishing to the account and its connection at our publishing partner is deleted. A post still planned for it fails at its time with The account is no longer available. No more Comment to DM replies go out from it.
  • Automation: rules leave the account out, and their preview says "… can't be used right now." A rule whose only account it was waits until it has a usable one.
  • Post history: the account's posts stay in your post history.
  • Analytics: its posts and followers leave Analytics at once.
  • Its data: what the network sent about the account, such as its name, picture and analytics, is deleted within seven days. For LinkedIn it goes at once, as LinkedIn's terms require.
  • Your bill: an extra social account you bought stays on it. The owner gives it back with Give one back in Settings › Billing.

Connect it again

  • Within six days: connect the same account again and it comes back as it was, with its post language, time zone and analytics history.
  • Later, once its data is deleted, or a LinkedIn account at any time: it comes back as a new account, without its analytics history and with the workspace's language and time zone. Analytics reads its posts of the last year again within a few hours.

Connecting again takes a place in your plan, as any account does.

When SemPost removes accounts itself

When the free trial ends without a paid plan, or a paid plan closes, SemPost removes the workspace's social accounts after 48 hours. Their data stays as long as the workspace exists, LinkedIn's apart. Buy a plan and connect them again: they come back with their history.

If something goes wrong

  • There's no Remove button. Only owners and admins see it. Editors see Check; viewers see the list only.
  • "The publishing service did not answer. Try again in a moment." The removal didn't go through and the account is still connected. Try again a little later.
  • "Social account not found." when you approve a post: its account was removed. Delete the post, or write it again for another account.
