Explanation

First comment, hashtags, link and UTM

Where SemPost puts a post's link, hashtags and first comment on each network, and how UTM tags show which post a visit came from.

Every network treats links, hashtags and comments its own way. Instagram doesn't make a link in a caption clickable, Pinterest uses no hashtags, Google Business Profile has a button for the link. You give SemPost one link, one list of hashtags and one first comment, and it places each of them the way the post's network takes it.

Where you set them

  • Studio: under Content, the Link, Hashtags and First comment fields. Under What will be sent, each account's row says where its link, hashtags and first comment go.
  • Generate from products: in the Image and text step, Add the product link, Hashtag set, First comment and Put the hashtags in the first comment on Instagram. Automation rules offer the same choices.
  • Posts page: no such fields. The text goes out exactly as you type it, with any hashtags and addresses in it.

Stories on Instagram and Facebook show no text, so they get no hashtags, no link and no first comment.

Hashtags

In the Studio, type a hashtag and press Enter, pick Add from a brand set, or press Let the AI suggest (it costs credits; the price is on the button). You can list up to 30, without the # sign. Each network takes the first ones in your list, as many as it allows; the row under the field shows how many each network uses.

  • With I'll write, the hashtags go at the end of your text.
  • With The AI writes, the AI uses yours first and adds fitting ones of its own when a network takes more.
  • On Instagram, Put the hashtags in the first comment on Instagram keeps the caption clean: the hashtags go under the post instead.

In Generate from products, choose a Hashtag set; you keep the sets in Settings › Brand.

The link must start with https://. In the Studio, a product you bring into the tray fills it; in Generate from products, it's each product's own page.

SemPost adds four UTM tags to it, so your shop's or website's analytics show which network and which post a visit came from:

  • utm_source: the network, such as instagram or pinterest
  • utm_medium: social
  • utm_campaign: sempost
  • utm_content: the post's own ID

If your link already has any of these four tags, SemPost's values replace them; the rest of the address stays as it is. On Instagram and TikTok the link is left out because their captions don't make it clickable. To get your link to people there, use Comment to DM.

First comment

On Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads and YouTube, this text is written under the post as its first comment; never under a story. It takes up to 500 characters.

  • On Facebook, the link goes in this comment too, after your words.
  • On Instagram, your hashtags can go here (see above).
  • When you leave the field empty, the AI may write a first comment for the Instagram and Facebook posts it writes.

The post's card in the Approval queue shows its first comment and link. A post's Edit window doesn't change them: check them before you send.

  • Board: pins go to the account's board, picked when you connected it. Admins change it in Settings › Social accounts (Pinterest board). When you generate posts, and in the Studio with The AI writes, you can pick another Board under the account for that batch. Posts you write yourself go to the account's board.
  • Link: the pin opens your link, from the Studio's Link or Generate's Add the product link. A pin made on the Posts page has no link.
  • Title: up to 100 characters, from the Title field; the AI writes one for its own pins. Pins take no hashtags.
