How-to guide
Upload pictures and videos
Add your own photos and videos to the media library, and see which files SemPost takes and what it keeps of each one.
Upload your own photos and videos on the Media page. They go into the library, count in your plan's storage and stay there until you delete them, ready for your posts, the Studio and the Video Studio.
What you can upload
| Pictures | Videos | |
|---|---|---|
| Formats | PNG, WebP, JPEG | MP4, MOV, WebM |
| Largest file | 20 MB; a PNG 16 megapixels, a WebP 8 (a JPEG photo may be larger) | 200 MB, 3 minutes and 4K (4096 pixels on a side) |
| What SemPost keeps | A JPEG, at most 2,048 pixels wide | An MP4 at 30 frames a second, at most 1080p |
Upload files
Open Media
In the menu, open Media. The upload area, Upload pictures or videos, is in the Library card at the top.

Mark files made with AI
If the files were made or changed with AI outside SemPost, tick Made with AI first. The mark goes with the files you upload next, then the box clears. See AI labels on your pictures and videos.
Choose the files
Drag the files onto the area, or click it and choose them. You can choose several: they go one after another, and the list under the area says how each one went.
Wait for the videos
A picture is in the library at once. A video is sent in parts (…% sent), then made ready (sent, being made ready): it shows under the upload area as being made ready: up to 1080p at 30 frames a second until it joins the library. Keep the page open while the parts are sent; after that you can leave.
In the Studio, Upload in the tray works the same way: the files go into the library, and the tray has its own Made with AI box.
What SemPost keeps
SemPost makes its own copy of each file for the networks and doesn't keep the file you sent, so keep your original.
- Pictures are turned upright as your phone shows them, made at most 2,048 pixels wide and saved as JPEG. Transparent areas become white. The location and camera details stored in a photo are left out.
- Videos are turned upright, made at most 1080p (1920 × 1080, or 1080 × 1920 standing) and set to 30 frames a second, with their sound. A smaller video isn't made larger.
- The file's name, without its ending, becomes its name in the library, so you can search for it.
- The same file uploaded twice is kept once; for a picture that's already there, the list says already in the library.
The card shows the kept copy's size, which can differ from your file's.
The daily limit
The Uploaded today bar counts what the workspace has sent today, up to 1 GB. The day starts again at midnight UTC.
- A video counts at its full size as soon as its upload starts, even if you stop it.
- Pictures the Studio fetches from your store or a product page count too.
If something goes wrong
- Upload a PNG, WebP or JPEG picture, or an MP4, MOV or WebM video. Save the file in one of these formats first; photos from an iPhone, for example, are often HEIC.
- A picture can be at most 20 MB. A PNG can be at most 16 megapixels and a WebP 8; a larger picture can go as a JPEG. Save the picture as a JPEG, or a smaller copy.
- A video can be at most 200 MB., A video can be at most 3 minutes long. or A video can be at most 4K (4096 pixels on a side). Shorten or shrink the video first.
- The file could not be read as a picture or a video. The file is damaged or isn't really in its format.
- The video could not be made ready. Try a shorter or smaller file. Making it ready took longer than 15 minutes, or the file was too heavy to process.
- Today's upload limit (1 GB) is reached. Try again tomorrow. Uploading opens again at midnight UTC.
- The library is full, and files in the trash still count. To make room, remove files from the library, or delete files in the trash for good with Delete now. See Your media library.
A failed video shows under the upload area with its reason; × (Dismiss) puts it away. A half-sent video is stopped after a day, or at once with × (Stop the upload).
