Explanation
Time zones, best times and daily limits
How SemPost reads every time in your workspace's time zone, finds an account's best free time and keeps to its daily post count.
SemPost plans every post in your workspace's time zone. When it chooses a time for you, it starts from the account's best hours, keeps the account under its daily post count and leaves at least 4 hours between two posts of the same account.
The workspace's time zone
You set it in Settings › Workspace, under Time zone. Every time you see or type in SemPost is in this zone, and the time fields name it, for example "The time is in Europe/Istanbul." Days are the workspace's days too, so an account's daily count runs from midnight to midnight in this zone.
Changing the time zone doesn't move your posts: each keeps its moment, so the clock time you see for it changes.
If your device is in another time zone, the calendar shows Times in, where you choose between Workspace and This device. It changes only what you see, and this browser remembers your choice.
Each account's time zone
An account's audience may live in another time zone. In Settings › Social accounts, each account has a Time zone, the workspace's until you pick another. Use the workspace's puts it back.
An account's zone doesn't change when its posts go out, or the zone you type times in. It shows you the time your audience sees: in Edit, in the calendar's side panel and under its Move field, a line such as "The account's time: …" gives the time on the account's clock when it differs from yours. An automation rule's preview also warns when one of the rule's set times falls between 23:00 and 07:00 on an account's clock.
Best times
SemPost finds an account's first free time when you choose Best time on the Posts page, approve a post that has no time, or press Place at the best time on the calendar.
- The hours it tries. The account's best hours: for each day of the week, the hours its posts got the most engagement, measured as for Best times to post on the Analytics page. An hour counts once at least two posts were measured in it, and up to three hours count for each day. On a day of the week without measured hours, SemPost uses the default posting hours: 12:00 and 19:00 from Monday to Friday, 11:00 and 20:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
- The one it takes. Starting 30 minutes from now, it goes day by day, earliest hour first, and takes the first hour that keeps the account under its daily count and 4 hours away from its other posts. It looks three weeks ahead.
- Why. With one account chosen, the Posts page shows the first free time and the reason: "the best time for engagement" or "the default posting time".
An account's day counts its posts that are waiting for approval with a time, planned, on their way, published or validated in test mode. Drafts and rejected posts don't count, and neither do posts you shared on the network outside SemPost.
Daily limits
Each account's daily post count depends on its network:
| Network | Posts a day |
|---|---|
| 3 | |
| 3 | |
| TikTok | 3 |
| 10 | |
| 2 | |
| YouTube | 2 |
| Threads | 5 |
| Bluesky | 5 |
| Google Business Profile | 1 |
When SemPost chooses the time, it never goes over the count. For a time you pick yourself, the Daily posts per account setting decides, in Posts › Approval and planning:
- Warn when it is exceeded (recommended): the post is planned anyway and you see a warning, such as "This account already has 3 posts that day (the daily count). The post was planned anyway."
- Do not allow more: SemPost refuses the time with "This account's posts for that day are full. Pick another day."
A time you pick less than 4 hours from another post of the account only brings a warning: "This account has another post less than 4 hours away."
Limits on every time
- A time you pick must be at least five minutes from now ("Pick a time at least five minutes from now.") and at most a year ahead.
- When posts go out live, each network's own hourly and daily caps apply too. If an account has reached one, the post waits until there is room, so it can go out later than planned.
